Ten Small or Light Souvenirs

Ten Small or Light Souvenirs

Collecting souvenirs from my travels is always something that I look forward too. Disatuarably some item scan significantly weigh down luggage and possibly cost you more than you bargained for at check-in. Here are some souvenirs that won't add, or won't add as much, to the overall weight of your bag/suitcase.

Postcards

Postcards are effortlessly my favorite souvenir to collect, highlighting major tourist attractions and local charm. The great thing about postcards is they weight about seven to thirteen grams, can easily be tucked into a bag pocket or in-between clothing and, most of all you can find them almost anywhere.

Fridge Magnets

I'm not exactly a fan of fridge magnets for the simple reason that I do not like clutter, especially on my fridge, I do however still own a few to hold up my bills. Fridge magnets have thankfully started to look less tacky over the years. Like postcards, they only weigh a few grams and, you can also get them just about anywhere.

Tickets

If you're looking to turn your souvenirs into an art project, boarding passes and tickets might be the way to go. I've seen them transformed into collages, canvas art and, have even seen hung. The convenient thing about passes is, if you're traveling you'll have them anyway so there won't be a need to stop at a gift shop or gas station to find one.

Patches/Stickers

I have a hard time finding stickers/patches sometimes (depends on the country) and usually purchase them online after the fact. They are once again one of the lighter souvenirs and can effortlessly be attached to suitcases, bags and, garments.

Photos

When all else fails, I turn to photos as a keepsake. I recommend skipping the DSLR and opting for your mobile device that you'll most likely (if you're lucky) have with you. Most mobile devices have pretty decent cameras nowadays. Not only will this souvenir cost you nothing and, weigh nothing, but it's the only one that can be shared between multiple people (my family can expect an e-Christmas card from Iceland this year).

I'd love to hear about the souvenirs you've collected over the years.
